An Act of Trust & Faith

The act of sowing a seed means relinquishing that seed to the ground for the natural forces of life to make it grow into something new, something more, something fruitful. It's a sacrificial act that demonstrates faith in God's natural law and process. It's a symbol of trust and alignment knowing that the law of growth is active and that aligning with the conditions to support that growth will reap a harvest.

Sowing yourself as a seed means planting your entire self in God's generative and foundational 'soil' – His word, His will and His presence. As a planted seed, for you to grow in God, His ’soil’ has to cover you, it has to shed away any barriers and blockages to your full surrender. It has to anchor you so you are not washed away by life's floods. It has to protect you. It has to prepare you.

The Unknowing Phase

It will mean that for a season, the fruit, the harvest or the results will not be in your physical hands but planting yourself firmly into God's fertile ground with service, prayer, humility and surrender to him, ensures that a season of reaping of benefits will follow in due course.

Sowing yourself as a seed may mean temporary 'darkness' and uncertainty. He knows the end from the beginning, but the ‘in between’ may not necessarily be shared with you all at once. Instead, you may receive spiritual and intuitive guidance from the Lord in small, (potentially frustrating) increments. By staying frustrated, you can miss the harvest and the rewards if you do not trust His process and uproot yourself, or allow yourself to be displaced.

The truth is, there is an unknowing that follows the sowing phase.

The conditions may not remain perfect, deliberate disruption can take place, prematurely searching for results can hamper your progress, your level of perseverance may not be enough and you can get distracted.

All of these render the results of the reaping phase unsure. You can end up with less than was intended or miss it completely if you do not remain carefully grounded.

The actual sowing is a risk if your intention is not to tarry with God and stay in his will.

The Beautiful Side – More, not Less

a fruitful tree like our fruitfulness in God

The flip side though, is beautiful and rewarding.

If you stay, if you commit, if you surrender, if you trust God, He promises that he will reward you if you diligently seek Him. Sowing yourself as a seed, by the Living Water, in the fertile ground of his truth and his promises will create a fruitful harvest in the right season, without you 'withering' away.

What could this level of surrendered living really look like for you or for me?

By giving all we have to Him, we will truly have more and not less.

Sow yourself – your heart, your mind, your talents, your work as a seed knowing that it is God who will make your seed grow.  (1 Corinthians 3:6)

Steps to Take

In my research for this post, I came across these key principles for sowing yourself as a seed in God. I hope they will be a blessing to you as they were to me. The links for the sources to the list below are also shared below:

“To "sow yourself as a seed" to show faithfulness to God, you can:

  1. Dedicate your life fully to God's service, offering yourself as a "living sacrifice" as described in Romans 12:1: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship."

  2. Invest your time, talents, and resources in God's kingdom work, trusting that He will multiply your efforts. Jesus taught about this principle in the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1-23).

  3. Be willing to "die to self" by putting God's will above your own desires. Jesus said, "Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds" (John 12:24).

  4. Cultivate spiritual growth through regular prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with other believers. This helps you become "good soil" that produces a bountiful harvest (Matthew 13:23).

  5. Share your faith with others, planting seeds of the Gospel in their lives. As Paul wrote, "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow" (1 Corinthians 3:6).

  6. Persevere in faith during difficult times, trusting that God is working even when you can't see immediate results. James encourages believers to "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance" (James 1:2-3).

Remember, sowing yourself as a seed is about surrendering your life to God's purposes and trusting Him to bring forth fruit in His timing.”

Be blessed,

Catique.
