Making Space for God's Plan

We sometimes have to declutter. We take stock of what we have, we get rid of things that no longer serve us, we clear out the old, we re-organize, we make our current spaces more functional, while freeing up additional room. After that process, our space has a better energetic feel, with improved flow; we get clear on what we have around us and how it all fits together.

Think about our relationship with God in a similar way. Sometimes we are so cluttered with all our own ideas, beliefs, plans, obligations, problems and past traumas - and those of others- that the conscious space we hold for God's plan is little to nothing.
We may get preoccupied and proud with the independence we were given -by God himself- to think, move, live and have dominion in life.
The humility that should follow, knowing our breath is only lent to us for a season, that humility many times is absent.
We proudly go our own way, do our own thing based on our own isolated perceptions - not necessarily under the guidance of the word and will of God.
His purposes become secondary! His plans may become distant fall-backs when we deem them convenient. His words fall on closed ears and hardened hearts.
We can't afford to live in that way. It will literally cost us everything that has true, lasting and immutable value.
Just as our physical spaces sometimes need a clearing out, so too we need to make space for God's will and purposes in our lives.
And not just a tiny corner in the back of our minds, or buried away in a little nook of our hearts, the space we dedicate to God's will, plans and purposes must be 'prime property' - at the front and centre of our existence.
When we create and hold space for God to freely move through us, life unfolds differently. Knowing that God not only cares, loves, protects and restores but He has ultimate knowledge and power over all things yesterday, today and for all time eternal.
Why would we then not make space for God to direct our lives and order our steps?
Let us ask ourselves these questions and truthfully answer:
Why would we think we can do a better job than God himself who made us, the people around us and the very days we wake up to see?
Do we reserve an openness for God's plan to unfold in our lives by His divine wisdom?
Have we made space to hear His voice, space to allow his word to grow as a seed in our hearts?
Have we made space for God to move and manouvre without the clutter of disbelief, anxieties, pride and fear?
Have we truly made the space for God?

Each person knows his or her own standing.
Surrender to him today. Cast your burdens on Him.
Declutter your mental and spiritual spaces daily by faithfully obeying God's word, which says in 1 Peter 5:7 :
"...casting all your cares (all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all) on Him, for He cares about you (with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully)".
May God give us grace today to truly believe and trust in Him so we can make space for His will to unfold. Amen.
Blessings,
